    Buying a website - Dummies Guide - I have often seen websites for sale on this forum and others. As I have never bought a website I was wondering from you guys and girls what to check for when buying a website?

    Like a top 10 questions to ask or checks to follow out before you buy a website from someone else. So if you have your top 10 tips on buying a website it would be great to hear, as it will definitely help me and Im sure may other DP members

    Hmm, some of the obvious would be:

    - proof of revenue
    - proof of traffic
    - are they banned in adsense or other programs?
    - does the site PR seem reasonable compared to its age
    - does the incoming links seem reasonable compared to its age
    - check the wayback machine to see what the site looked like before
    - if it was your site would you sell it? People tend to sell their junk, try to figure out why they are really selling.

    " Never ever be in rush to close the deal, give your time to research/stats, buying is important, but to get revenue from the website is next most important stuff "

    Good points before but I want to add some things.

    If PR is a value get data from where he got the links.

    Anybody can buy links, put on the coop or maybe own sites to get a PR 5 and when you buy the site the links go down.

    Also proof of refferers. Where are the traffic coming from? Autosurf program?

    -Check to make sure they have copyright on the content. Are there stolen/scraped images? Articles?

    Ask the seller... Why are you selling ?

    What percentage of the directory is Dmoz listings ?
    Did the forum seller buy forum postings ? how many ?
    Did the forum seller provide incentives for posting ?


    Did you receive a cease and desist order ?
    Are you running away from a potential lawsuit ?

    Did anyone ever accuse this website of unauthorized copyright infringement ?
    - what content did they say was copyrighted ?
    - what proof did they provide ?
    - how do I contact them ?

    You can also buy sites at sedo.com but they have really unrealistic prices.
