Buying a Web Site, learning from Experience

This is an experience and not an offer of sale or purchase, so read if you want.

Like most people here (if not everybody) I have learnt a great deal from this forum and also had a fair bit of fun along the way. I've willingly taken as much knowledge and information as I could and want to give a bit back.

For many this probably won't be of much interest but if you're new to buying sites this tale may help you to avoid some pitfalls along they way.

A few months ago I successfully bought a site and forum off a fellow DP member. It was made a bit complicated by the fact I had to do a wire transfer from the UK to India, so the first bit of advice is to find a bank and cashier that have some clue how to transfer money. If they ask you a load of questions, take that as a good sign as my money very nearly literally ended up in cyberspace.

I was then (and still am) pretty new to buying sites (as was the seller) so we agreed a 30% payment upfront and the remainder when all sites, passwords etc. had been transferred over. I consider myself very lucky to have been dealing with a very honest guy (later to be found very AdSense naive), other than the bank the money and site transfer went without a hitch. The seller did say he never knew the Adsence TOS before but did now.

After the site purchase and transfer I discovered that the Adsense income may have been slightly exaggerated but much worse than that I had bought a site that had some way dodgy forum threads of "click the ads to help us" and even worse emails and newsletters all over the place. I've got to thank {B]sebasic[/B] for the valuable and impartial advice he gave me with this matter, and after a fair few emails to and from Google I was again able to show Adsense and still sleep easy. Advice here is if you have any doubts ask Google, they are pretty good when not automated.

In conclusion, the bought site is paying for itself quite nicely, the seller is also doing well and is no longer abusing Adsense or advertisers.

I hope you find this history tale useful in some way and if not you should stop procrastinating, and go vote MELLA :D

If you are thinking who was the seller ?
    Then its me! :D
And to all you folks, everything I told him is true and I admit I was doing wrong pratices with adsense then. But now I'm a changed man and currently getting better than what I got last year. ;)

btw, I would like to know what was the advice from SEBasic. I'm still getting some fraud clicks in one of my sites.

PS: AdSense revenue wasn't exaggerated. But you know how we got there.

    Best Regards,

We just sold a site a few weeks back it was a considerable amount of money so we used https://www.escrow.com/. It didn't even cost that much.
