Buying a taken Domain?

I had a .com domain back in the 90's that I let go.
It was taken by what appears to be a squatter.
I have been checking it since about 2003 and they have only ever had a default placeholder page.
It was set to expired in 2006 but they re registered it.

How do I go about making an offer to buy the domain from them?
how does that type of transfer work?
Never tried to buy a domain from anyone. Always picked unused domains.

Looks like they used networksolutions and its private registration

Contact them through the email in the whois and discuss it. Had the same issue, but the current owner wants $x,xxx for it.

    Just that easy huh?
I hope they dont want $XXX.XX for it... cus I will only pay $XX.XX :D
Its not a hot domain or anything.

How does the transfer take place?
How does the money cross hands?
Does the registrar take care of all that?

Well, you make a deal with the seller. You might want to use an escrow service like escrow.com.

    bleh...
    The mail bounced back.
    The user no longer exists.
It gave me his email address tho.

Seems a person in a company registered it.
A new company that start to get on the web around 2003.
