    Can someone help me out?

I would like to know where I can by this server?

And generally could someone tell me what I need to look over to buy a server.

Cause I was looking at Dell servers and they are expensive to get like MySql and all that on them with like 120GBs space....

Also how much is it to have Cpanel and PHPMyAdmin installed on them.

    Thanks

I build my own servers. However, the Dell products look fine to me and the prices seem very reasonable. Unless you are going top end, with multiple processors, buying is cheaper than building.

But, you will need to make sure you have plenty of RAM. I like 4 gigs for my main server, especially if it hosting web sites and managing email and so forth. It is not that any of those are memory intensive. It is that you can have a lot of simultaneous connections and that will chew through available RAM in a hurry.

For hard drives, I like the option of going with a couple and then, when you install your operating system, put the OS on a smaller, separate drive, from the data.

If you are not stuck on CPanel, you might take a look at DirectAdmin

On my last machine, I downloaded Fedora from the internet and installed that on my machine. I did a plain, minimal instal. DirectAdmin says: "Please do not install services such as Apache, PHP, MySQL, Ftp, Sendmail, etc., as we will do this for you. All we need is a clean install of Redhat."

You need to make sure ssh is installed and running, unless you are always going to manage the machine directly.

DirectAdmin is a fairly simple install via the internet.

Like CPanel, it allows you to administer all aspects of the machine via a web-based interface -- turning services on an off. You can add users, web domains, manage email, etc etc.

    It also installs PHPMyAdmin.

However, you still need to have acess to the machine to tweak things like the firewall. For that, a lot of people like KISS because it is easier than learning iptables.

If you go with a GUI instead of a CLI interface, there are some helpful tools for administering the built in firewall.

    Thanks Clancey,

Could you possibly tell me where I should look to get educated more on this stuff, setting up servers for specifically hosting.

Also what if I need CPanel, what would it cost me to get this set up like here...The first one on that page...

If you're considering Layeredtech take a look at these threads on their forum for special deals:

    http://layer0.layeredtech.com/showthread.php?t=3457

    http://layer0.layeredtech.com/showthread.php?t=3583

    The first thread has a deal for a WHM/CPanel Sempron 2600 1GB RAM + 160GB drive for $85

You'll have to click through using the link in the thread to get the deal.

And take a look at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=327478 for tips on hardening your server
