Buying a New Laptop in the US

I have a friend who is coming over to the US (San Fransisco to be specific).

They have agreed to bring me back a laptop so if anyone knows where I can find a good deal please post here. I am looking for a work PC(No Graphic Intensive Games), running Xp ... something a bit above entry level

Can be online or in SF.

i would go for an acer, travelmate series is the cheaper choice, aspire is more "above entry level", the graphics card is way better (so you can play some better 3d games) and afaik the aspire series has always build in bluetooth and wlan. i would not buy a notebook without wlan anymore, its great if you travel a lot. but you should try out the keybord before you buy it, the first one i had was excellent, this keyboard now is quite crappy...

Dell has some really good offers.

What country are you in? You may have to invest in a power converter aswell if you're getting an electronic product overseas.

I am in South Africa and Dell's are available from here but seem a bit over priced. I was gonna actually buy an adptor travel kit with the laptop from the same place and of course the adaptor would support South Africa and maybe a UK one.

Dell's good in the US, because of prices.

If you want something speedy, Alienware has always beat the market in laptops for the speed

Fry's is about 7 hours from where I live. Not a perfect Idea.

Sony is way too expensive for what you get.

I would highly recommend going with a dell. A 9300 (I'm not sure what the updated model is called) would be a great choice for you. There are also 30-35% off coupons floating around the web sometimes.

For dell, the problems don't happy that often, but when they do, you need to either have a warranty with them (usually around $300), otherwise you're gonna have to pay a lot.

Just make sure you have a cheaper model, rather than the XPS. if you're gonna get something like that, get a better brand.

i personally use DELL, if your not heavy on games and computer animation, then DELL packages are sufficient for most people

And then of course I use a Lenovo Thinkpad, but I highly recommend other products as this Thinkpad is slower than what it has... maybe it's the operating system taking up too much memory? idk.

You can also consider that, just make sure the CPU's strong and you have a lot of RAM.
