It depends on what you are going to use your laptop for.
If you want ultimate mobility, then go for the XPS1210 or the 640m.

What will you be using your laptop for?

Looks like a good setup, I am actually looking at buying an Inspiron 6400 also.

From my research it seems that Vista works a lot better with 2GB of memory, so I would consider more memory or just reformat your laptop and install XP and you would have a very fast setup.

Its decent quality but I know some people keep telling me they're cheap quality (well.. cheap prices.. it should correlate in that way). Quality is either MAC or SONY imo

Man go with HP over Dell any day.
Aslo on the page you gave, i found Dell Inspiron 9400 a lot better for the money plus note that you have vista home basic on the 6400 which doesent have any of the new features other Vista operating systems have.

Macbook, get a macbook. I've been saving up for this beauty and lemme tell ya, it's well worth the mere $1300. Excellent machine, never any problems. Get a laptop with vista and you'll have to get a crapload of ram which of course you'll need, considering the 114,000 viruses released for Windows in 2006. Vista is no safer, and it's actually more annoying.

PS: Dell computers are CHEAP, and not just in price..

I just bought a new laptop about a month ago (typing to you on it now). I went with an HP. Even after all of the discounts Dell gave me the HP was cheaper and higher quality at a lower price.

HP or Dell laptop should be okay. Quality control for laptop is pretty the same nowadays.

Things that you need to consider are:

    1. What kind of support can you get in your country for the product? I always look for 1 - 3 hours express service that is available in Singapore. I do not know if that is the case over your country.

    2. More RAM. Since you are using VISTA, then you can consider using thumbdrive for additional RAM as it will be cheaper in cost.

    3. Harddisk space. 60 Gb is a little less as now it is mostly 120Gb.

    4. Battery lifespan and also how long it lasts with continuous usage. If you are travelling while using, then it will be better to have a spare battery as you may not find a place to charge on the road.

    Hope this helps.

    1. I would go with an AMD processor...much better than a conroe
    2. you have to get more ram, at least 2G
    3. Up the harddisk to at least 80 or more

    4. check newegg and tigerdirect for better deals and lower prices...

Personally I'd aim for 2ghz processor, 1gb of ram and 80gb harddrive for a laptop.

I've just noticed in your specification list in your original post that you put the operating system as Vista Home Basic. I just thought I'd inform you (if you didn't know already) that you won't get any of the cool Vista visual effects (like the Aero graphics system) with Vista Home Basic (and you won't have some of the other features), you will need at least Vista Home Premium for that (which I would recommend as the visual effects of Vista seems to be one of its biggest selling points).

Apart from that I would just go with what the others have said, like at least 1 GB of RAM. I would go for a processor with a speed of at least 2 GHz though to get the best performance out of Vista. Hard disk size is really more dependant on what you plan on using the computer for (like just photos or do you plan on storing home movies).

    I hope this helps. :)

I prefer Toshibas but they are usually more expensive.

    So Dell should be ok.

For the internet, it doesn't really need to be particularly powerful, nor to play music.

But you definetely need a large HD or have to get an external one very soon and goodbye ease of travelling.

Actually, one thing is portability, that is if you want to take your laptop from home to office and back, another is travelling in which case you might want to get a small sized one.

Obviously battery life is a concern, so look into that too.

    Good luck!
