Ok i was planning to buy a Laptop for myself .....

Any reviews on a Dell laptops .... How is their performance in general ?

And one thing i know that a centrine 1.7 GHz is almost equivalent to a pentium 4 3 GHZ .... But what is Intel® Pentium® M Processor 740 (Processor speed 1.73GHz) equivalent to in terms to Pentium 4 speed?
Because in Dell i am getting all Intel® Pentium® M Processor 740 so i am a bit sure about their actual speed.

Dell? Have you considered Toshiba laptops?

I've used Compaq, Acer and Toshiba in my office ( but not Dell's) and I can only sing praises for my Toshiba. Thumbs down for the other two. Really thumbs down ..

I have done LOTS of research to pick my laptop. I've visited notebookreview, cnet, pcworld, pcmagazine, and many others, and 99% of the reviews I've read about Dell computers say that they are the best, that's why I'm getting a 700m Inspiron now.

    Why don't you like them?

I've had three Dell laptops since 1999, when I gave up the desktop for good. First one, the hard drive went bad after two weeks. Dell overnighted a new one to me with pre-paid package to send the old hd back. No issue for me, the support worked well. Second one never had a problem. I donated it to my Church for a youth group in Brazil and bought this one.

Most people I know have had nothing but good luck with their Dell notebooks.

Myself, I just replaced my four year-old Sony SR7K with a 14" iBook, and am very happy.

Only bad thing about Dell is that they suck at delivery... 48 hours to process your order, 5 days to send in your order, and then 3-4 weeks to get the item to you.

If I'm lucky I will be getting it by November

Have you heard of a brand named Sager? Do a google on it, pretty impressive, always offers the best hardware components at any given time.

I've had dell, toshiba, and I'm using an HP now.

I liked them all and log massive time on my laptop. I use a laptop about 98% of the time.

I like HP Pavilion the best just because it seems a lot more rugged than the Toshiba. The Dell was pretty solid, too, but I had an issue with the screen at the end.
