So i just purchased a PR dropped domain, was thinking of 301 to one of my sites, but keep having a feeling of maybe i should start a site for it, so as to preserve the link quality of the site.

the site i planned to redirect to is a destination guide
the dropped domain is a ocean conservation site (tld of the country) with a couple of .gov links

Even if i start a new site with the dropped domain, i will definitely link it to my site.

So what are the pros and cons here for starting a new site vs a 301 redirect. Oh yah, i have to pay 2 yrs for the dropped domain .. and it sure cost alot for this country's tld!

I have never successfully 301 a dropped site and transferred the PR and trust. I have resulted to building up the websites again to the spec of the orginal site. I'd recommend you do the same thing. Exspecaily if it is obvious that the two site would not naturally be merged into one.

Google has now got a huge staff of human reviewers, if it doesn't make sense then expect to lose the value in the domain.
