Buying a domain

I found a domain that I want!!!

I contacted the owner and he said it was for sale and he told me to make him an offer!! How would I know what to offer him and what is the process for buying a domain from another person??

I ran the domain name through dnScoop - Domain Name Value, History, Stats Tool and Forums and that said that it's value was $0, because there is nothing on the site - no incoming or outgoing links.

What should I offer the guy?

Offer him a token sum slightly above the registration fees and a flying kiss :)

Depending on the registrar the domain came from, should be in the range of less than $10, I guess you need to add a bit more to cover for his troubles, but I guess thats about it.

Depends on how good the name is.

Does it have any keywords in it ? The exact keywords, or just one keyword + something else ?

Brandable ? .com ? Other extensions taken ? Future potential ?

Yes! All keywords! Brandable! .com! .net is taken, haven't checked the rest. Future potential, well that all depends on what I am going to do with it! I have a blog by the same name. If nothing else, I could move my blogger blog to the new domain and then see what happens after that....

And did I mention that the domain is 5 years old?? :D That's good, right?? :D

What I heard was the older the domain the easier it is for SEO, not sure how true it was. Depends on the people doing the SEO I guess? Mine never did well no matter how old they were.

That gives an idea on how much to value it at , but at the end of the day, you can't do anything without actually seeing the name. :)

Put it this way- if you were in the shoes of the seller , how much would you be wanting for it ? That minus potential bias factor = price of your domain ;)

Nobody can advise you of a price without knowing the domain. Foget about DNScoop or any other free appraisal site as they all suck. Think of a price that you feel it's worth to you based on how much you want that domain, the age of it, the quality of the name, & considering the .net is taken. If he thinks it's too low, he'll counter & then you can negotiate from there.
