Buying a Domain - Payment by wire secure?

Let's say I just acquired a domain name - the payment is in the four figures range and the seller asks for a bank wire transfer.

Is this secure? Can I get my money back if for some reason he doesn't transfer the domain?

    Thanks!

Call me a paranoid, suspicious b****** but I wouldn't be wiring money anywhere. Use an Escrow service. Once you wire the cash, it's gone and there is no recourse and no chargebacks.

A domain scam that occasionally surfaces is someone offers a domain for sale, takes payment and either the domain was never theirs to sell in the first place, or they keep the domain and the cash and wait for their next victim to come along.
