Buying a domain name, linking to a current site - no SEO?

Not sure if I made my question clear but if I have a current site and then buy a domain name from godaddy can there be seo? I think an IP needs to be available for the new domain name for seo to take place?

Is this correct or does godaddy offer URL forwarding without an IP address allocated?

Another question, if a web host registers a domain on your behalf - who owns the domain you are them?

You can forward the domain to any URL you wish to forward it to.

Ownership of a domain should be yours from any host, but some hosts will try to control the technical or administrative, so you should always register the names separate from your hosting and all the fields should be in your name.

Also be sure to lock your domains.

As well; use a web based email for your contact info.

Yah, be careful with those "free domain" hosts, some of them will try to own you as a life time client by having ownership of your domain.

As for redirect seo: hotmail.com is #3 on Google for "email" ... and a redirect ;)

Thanks guys, although I forwarded a domain in the past to my host, but when I navigate through other pages they show something like host.com/domain/page.htm - instead I want newdomain.com/page.htm

How do I lock my domain names also?
