hi guys, this a two parter.

i want to purchase a domain from someone, in the future. they have it contracted. there's also a very active forum that i believe could generate quite a bit of admoney. here's my question. if i wanted to buy out this domain, is it possible for me to do so, by going through the company, rather than the person who bought the domain originally? or will i have to go through that user?

also, this site has a very large forum, not as large as this one, but large enough nonetheless. however if the forum goes down it will cut the membership alot, and will lose activity. if the forum is started up again from scratch, it will also lose members, how can i buy the forum database that would be stored on the contracted user's server? or would i have to deal with him directly to get it :S

What do you mean by "contracted" Do you mean that they have leased it out? Is the domain name owned by the same person that owns the forum?

You can only buy the name from the owner of the name. If you own commercial land and have leased it out you can sell the land, the new owner takes on the lease. With commercial land having a sitting tenant is generally seen as an advantage; I'm not sure if this translates well to domains, but as long as the contracts are right my gut feel is it seems like a good idea.

You can only buy the content of the forum from the forum owner. If this isn't the same person as the domain name owner you have two contracts to negotiate than one.
