Hi guys, I have the chance to purchase a dropped domain which is ranked within the top 500 of alexa (its actually alot higher than this but not wanting anyone finding out the name) the domain has no PR. so question - is the alexa rank enough to make it worth the $6 registering the name? thanks wayne
It's easy to fake Alexa rankings, they are worthless. I would never do anything based on Alexa rankings.
valid point, however i was lead to believe that the higher up the ranking the harder it was to fake? Is it easy to fake a top 100 ranking
They are not much good to value by, however if it is a genuine Alexa ranking of aorund 500 then it will bring in more than enough traffic to justify paying 6USD for the registration
had a little look on the wayback machine and the domain was active from 99-06 might be worth it for the traffic. although a google search indicates possible tm issues as its a registered company name and pretty unique
What's a 6USD gamble? Check the history of the site and make an educated guess. Edit: Sorry didn't read your last post.
In my experience, dropped domains usually keep their pagerank and stats for about two months and then go to nothing. I have purchased several domain names in the past suffering from such curse.
The next update your lose the PR, but if the links stay there is no reason why you shouldn't get it back.
Grab it.. I'm sure it will make much more from just parking. I know Alexa Rank can be faked but to be in Top 500 isn't easy even by fake methods.
