Ok, this may seem confusing so please bear with me. I'm a domain hosting newbie. I already have a domain and host and they are both from the same provider. I do NOT like the host and do not want to move more of my business onto their servers. So, I want to know: Can I buy a new domain from another place (namecheap.com) and use the hosting on the old host plan I already have? They mentioned that subdirectory hosting would mean I need to transfer the domain name registration, but like I said I do NOT want to give them ownership of my domain, thus have to deal with their billing. I did ask my hosts support team, but they are incredibly dense and just waste my time. They beat around the bush and simply don't give answers to exact questions. Thank you.
First of all its none of issue - take a new hosting and take their nameservers of new hosting and replace the nameservers of your domain which is at current registrar and it will be done... your domain will be hosted on the new servers. Hope this helps...
Thank you first of all. It sounds like that's good news, but the english is a little off and it's hard to make it out accurately.
As long as you own the domain name, you can host it anywhere. The limitation would be the hosting account that you have for the number of domains you can host under one account. If I understand your question, you want to buy a domain name from another provider, and then use it on the existing hosting account that you have. This would called an Addon Domain. You would need to check the package that you currently have with your hosting provider to see if you have the option of adding more domains. Hope this helps, Chris
Thank you Chris. That sounds exactly like what I'm trying to do. I'll have to check the account, I don't think it included "addon domains".
