Buying a 4 letter 7+ year old domain... proper method?

I am finishing negotiations to purchase a new domain, my first large domain purchase ever.

I am wondering, what are the proper methods to transfer this domain as to not lose aging with Google, etc? What should I do with whois, hosting, all that.

I have a bit to learn in this area before we go to escrow with this deal.

Where is the domain going to be pushed too? Just get it pushed to the same registrar. Im glad you mentioned escrow, because there are all kinds of domain scams.

Apart of the financial transaction, I would suggest begin to upload your new content via temporary URL or IP addresss and until you get everything on the server make nameservers change of assign the new DNS.

That will prevent downtime making changes and getting Google finding nothing

I appreciate the responses, I will be keeping it at the same registrar (tucows).

Does anybody know of a forum where I might get a more advanced answer regarding the preservation of aging, etc in regards to this domain?

The most advanced and true answer you will get is that nobody can tell for 100% sure if domain aging advantages will change if the owner of the domain changes. Anyway, many are saying that aging is just giving a slight advantage so I hope you don`t pay to much for that seven years. What is for sure is that aging is not making your site popular, content is.

Aging is NOT a powerful advantage at all. The more important thing is whether your domain is short and easy to remember. Use sedo to buy/sell domains

I'll give you an idea. If the previous owner has only one domain in his account, then you can ask him to give his account to you instead.

...Or finding the right client who likes your domain disregard the name's length, aging or extension ;)
