He is just being diplomatic and has done that with other leaders one I that I can remember was with the Saudi King. The most powerful bowing to the least powerful, I think that's a good sign of change from the last president.

In Japan I bowed to my bus driver...I think it'd make a lot of sense to bow to the Emperor.

Keep in mind the Emperor is the most powerful person in Japan, and in Japan it is customary to bow to those in higher power. In Obama's case, doing this is not just showing good manners, but also highlights a knowledge of local customs which will set everything off nicely...

You have to ask your self what kind of person criticises someone for having good manners and being repsectful of cultural differences.

What should he have done, numptyhaha, Kick him in the balls?

He probably wasn't bowing on that pic, I think he dropped something, maybe a contact lens?

I think Ahmadinijad was standing behind him doing the cowboy dance and pretending to spank his ass. God I'm tasteless.

    Absolutely not.

Everyone who is talking about this "buyers remorse" nonsense were McCain/Palin supporters. I think Obama is doing a good job balancing moving the country forward with the obvious political obstacles in his way.

As far as the photograph of him bowing: Didn't the right wingers already have a hissy fit about this earlier in the year? Our President respects other nations. I for one am very very pleased that we have a President who actually cares about working with other countries rather than just bombing them.

    Grow up.

~ Seems unAmerican to bow to anyone, I suppose Obama is bowing to culture or something like that than to a person. If that is not an elected official would think even less of it - frankly it sucks - did the other guy bow first.... All hail Pelosi.

Breeze wood, Is it the being respectful and humble that seems unamerican? I'd have to agree. Thank goodness he wasn't being American, otherwise he would have been wearing a cowboy hat, being obese and asking him if he wants fries with that.

I love how the instant their leader isn't an ignorant, crass loudmouth the right think it "unamerican". Says a lot.

Lol. Love stereotypes. I suppose that makes you a socialist with bad teeth and a fear of insulting Muslims by calling them radical.

~ I believe in the constitution somewhere there is a prohibition against titles (inherited) that also is a statement against servitude - bowing, in fact a big reason for the war of Independence. Obama does seem the type though where being that way 'courteous' as in is his nature but if that is the emperor of Japan personally find it distasteful - - Wearing a cowboy hat, being obese and asking him if he wants fries with that would be better.

~ There is no remorse against Obama and is doing a good job.

Bowing to them is a sign of respect, to me it is a silly way to shake hands but I'm willing to do it any way.

How pathetic is a man who thinks someone else will take advantage of a sign of respect you show? This is why we have so much tough-talk and irrational decisions without any true deliberation or consequence/risk assessment and management.

I didn't vote for Obama. He is the best cheerleader America has had in my short life-time.

He's such a target that the office of the presidency is being re-examined for being too powerful; albeit examined by the right-wing mostly who gave these powers to that white president who preceded Obama.

Old, uneducated white-folk are dying and their foolish ideologies with them.

The president is not a king in himself, the president of a democratically elected (lol, i know) nation is the representative of what the average citizen of that nation is. Why shouldn't we bow to someone who's custom it is to greet others in respect with a bow?

It takes a strong individual to show they'd take a strike to their ego so your ego can remain in tact.

Americans are very slow to conflict, but when aroused will douse any flame held up against them. Don't you worry, if the world actually starts thinking itself better because we bow to others to appease their childishness, we will act as we have done before.

Respect only given where respect is received, but we are strong and secure enough in our sexuality to give respect to all first, as we are MEN (and women, i guess...).

    God, I love being American.

Well said New ([in my best Rodney Dangerfield impression] I can't believe I'm agreeing with a terrorist sympathizer). Love the "Its ok if Obama does it" attitude. Like me, he probably finds Mr. O extremely sexy, and wouldn't find it offensive if Obama was caught sodomizing a baby harp seal in the Oval office. You'll just have to chalk it up to Mr. Obama's strong personal magnetism and get over it. Personally, I think "Clay" would have been a better nickname for Barrack than "Barry". He can be anything you want him to be.

You seem to have confused culture with forcing women in to servitude. Do I respect culture? Sure. Doni respect the mistreatment of women? Absolutely not.
