Hi DP'iers, I would like to share an info about the alexa traffic rank and the traffic Graph! Many of you might already know this, I checked the below thread, http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=48847 and as I did not find this in the above thread, I am posting it here. I have noticed that some webmasters who are willing to sell their websites, are trying to increase the alexa traffic rank by using the Alexa Traffic Rank Increasing Software - This will send queries from various different IP addesses(disguise) to the website. Finally, as a result the alexa rank will increase and shows a beautiful Graph as though there is a good traffic in their website. How to find if the traffic is legitimate: 1. Look at the traffic trend in the alexa graph, if the traffic curve has increased suddenly just a month or two before the site has been posted for auction - Then you must doubt(However, You can not confirm, but it is just a pointer.) 2. You can ask for Google Analytics data If you have any other method to find this, please let us know. Thanks Regards, Jawahar Prasad
People actually use Alexa to get stats for a sale?! As far as i know their ranking are not the most accurate thing and is based on people using their toolbar. so you can't use that to make an opinion.
They dont totally rely on the alexa ranking.. but alexa ranking has a considerable amount of weightage... what do you say?
I never believe its value. It shows always different values of traffic to my site. But I always love to see it anyways.
Ya... We should be careful before buying sites... PPl who do not have much experience in buying sites will mostly be the losers :-( Reg Jawahar
