Hi all, I just recently discovered the ease of selling things on Amazon. I had several old and new textbooks lying around the house collecting dust so I figured I might as well make some money off them! I made a sale to a woman 2 weeks ago for a new textbook which I had purchased for a class but later decided not to take the course. Sold it on Amazon for $85.00! Everything went smoothly, money was transfered to my bank account, very pleased However this morning I received an e-mail from the buyer saying she needs to return the book because she just realized she ordered the wrong one for her class. Does Amazon have a policy that the seller is required to accept a return and refund their money? I treated my girlfriend in honor of the "free" money I had earned last week. boooo While I realize the situation the girl is in, it seems as though it would be just as easy for her to resell the book on her own on Amazon. So my question is, can I respond to the girl that I unfortunately do not accept returns, or am I required under Amazon guidelines to accept the return and refund her money? Thank you! Brandon
I believe Amazon is like eBay, you buy it, your stuck with it. Unless you specifically stated you have a return policy then I hate to say it but she needs to just resell the book on amazon or pawn it....
You can read Amazon's policy (i haven't read them), but if you were a store then there is a slight chance they accept returns with a restocking fee. As an individual, it was her mistake so she has to accept the consequences. Tell her in a professional manner she has to resell the book.
If you didn't have a clear no refund or exchange policy, then the right thing to do would be to go ahead and do the refund, minus shipping both ways, and a restocking fee. Since it was easy for you to sell it the first time, it should be a breeze selling it again. This way, you keep a happy client, and maintain your reputation in the Amazon marketplace, and your future sales will be even better : ) Happy selling!, PuReWebDev
