Buyer reversed payment, no way to get it back?

Discussion in 'Payment Processing' started by scott1995, Mar 7, 2009.

I wrote an article and did some forum posting for a reputable member here (has 54 positive itrader, no negative), and he recently reversed one of the payments. Its only $7, so not much, but I want to know in the future what I could do to prevent this from happening.

There is nothing you can do to stop someone from reversing a payment. Whether the buyer contacts the processor directly (ie: PayPal) or contacts his/her credit card or bank account company - they can reverse a payment.

You should contact the DP'er and find out *why* he reversed the payment. I'm guessing someone with 54 ITrader believed he had a reason for reversing the payment.

You can't do anything in this matter. Just contact your buyer and ask him the reason for reversed payment. Maybe any misunderstanding from your buyer's side.

    DON.

Try to talk to your buyer on why he reversed the payment, if it doesn't work out, write it as bad debt and avoid dealing with that member again.

I am sure you would have already contacted the buyer and there would be some grievances on his part for him to take this action.

Unfortunately, services done here are done without any contracts and are mostly done in good faith. If a member misuses the trust, there is hardly anything one can do except to stay away from such member in future.

How I wish a paypal rep. could read all such grievances here and find a way out! :(

    Regards,

well the thing is, he disappeared a few days after I got his payment, completely from DP and the website he wanted me to work on. I looked on some of his threads where he was hiring people to do forum posting, and saw a few replies also saying they weren't paid at all, so I'm not the only one not getting my money.

It can be avoided by setting the shipping address. But unfortunately, for digital products, there is no shipping method.

You can leave a negative itrader for that person.

Ok, well I talked to paypal about this, I'm happy atleast there isn't anything that I did wrong, they said the buyer was having problems with his bank account/PP account, probably was closed or something, and reverted the last payment... who knows.

But if he had problem with his bank or credit card, then why did he took money back from you? Is he running out of $7 and charged you back for this reason?

You have to contact the person who sent money and check with him why he reversed it. Have you done the forum posting as per his requirements or as agreed by you both ? Do you have any issues that forced him to take back the amount?

well, the risk of chargeback is always there if the buyer paid via credit card fund in paypal. The chargeback process got simple.
Maybe his account's amount also reversed , so your's.

I was under the impression that chargebacks were only available through paypal if paid by credit card? is that not right? if the funds are within his paypal account then it can't be done automatically, it has to go through a dispute? maybe wrong though, wouldn't be the first time....

I dont think there is a way to get payment back but you can contact the buyer and ask the reason for the same.
