I recently bought something through paypal which was a digital item. It was a cdkey for a game the seller sold to me however it was a fake. I have all the logs with seller screenshot and saved. The payment was made through my credit card, so I'm probably going to try and revert the charge through visa. Any advice on what to tell them so this goes smoothly, and what if the seller tries showing them the logs of him sending me the fake key, I really have no way of proving it was fake?
Give PayPal a ring. They can then open a dispute and the seller has something like 14 days to respond. With a bit of luck he'll just ignore it then the money will be automatically credited back to your card. That's what happened to me when I was sold a copy of some software.
Unless he's a scammer, and already withdrew the $ and closed the account, if this was done, then PayPal can't do anything.
It's difficult for buyers to win digital item disputes. Generally, Paypal sides with the seller on about 90% of those. Good luck, though. You will need it.
