Buyer makes PayPal Dispute for Unauthorised Claim when I've already sent item

I sold a cellphone on eBay for $550 3 days ago. I received payment and as you do you send it off the following day. I just woke up to see that the buyer has started a dispute stating that the purchase of the cellphone was unauthorized. PayPal have taken $550 from my account so I'm now in the negative and the cellphone has been shipped to him already. PayPal are asking for a tracking number though the buyer chose a postal service that doesn't include a tracking number. I've tried messaging the buyer asking if he'll cancel the dispute since I've already sent it and once he receives the cellphone to send it back then I'll give him a refund but i haven't received a reply.

I run a business on eBay and to have money in my PayPal account at all times is vital and right now this has left me and my business in a total mess since I'm in the negative.

Can anyone give some advice on what I should do?

There is not much you can do, you are f** by the combination of Paypal and a bad customer.
who has the habit of doing it. (some do this constantly)

When you send something that is $550.00 worth, you better send it so you can track it. or better re-call and not deliver.

If it is still possible call up the shipping company immediatley to cancel the shipment. Otherwise there is nothing much you can do at this point but give the person a negative feedback to warn others.

People are in it to scam anyone they come across. Paypal is even worse for siding with these people (unless it really was an unauthorized transaction). Good luck I hope you prevail. For items that are over $100 you should always get a tracking number just because of situations like this.

When you send something of that value, you should send recorded. Anyway, you do have his address, right? Maybe if the situatuion does not sort itself out, you could invlove the police in someway.

Thanks for all the help. It's all been sorted out. He's going to cancel the dispute and send the phone back and get a refund that way. Though I'm definitely going to use tracking from now on, I don't want to run into this little problem again.

I'm surprised he agreed to cancel it. Most people like that are out to scam you.

Never send an item of this worth unregistered if paid by PayPal. And if this works out for you you can really say you are a lucky guy. But I would not be "happy" until you got back everything and it has cleared. This case looks QUITE strange.

That's the bad thing about Paypal, they will only look on one side and forget the other. I hope you can claim back your item. It's best that you have tracking number for every postal sending in the future.

May be he was real owner of account while you shipped to another person

Also, if you shipped to the paypal's confirmed address. Ask him all the shipping costs, open a eBay unpaid item dispute to get your final value credit back. That way, you don't lose anything except Listing fees.
