This is a question for people who are experienced with buying links. How much would you predict it would cost along with proper SEO, and regular link building, to buy your way to the first page of google for a term that gets around 100,000 searches a month? Is this even possible on google, or is google to smart? I don't have that much experience with buying links. But is this possible, and how much approx would it cost? or how many links with your keyword would you need? Can you buy your way to the first page?
There is no way to even guess without knowing the keyword - as each keyword has different levels of competition. A brand new site isn't going to get to the first page by buying links because of the sandbox. The number of links doesn't matter nearly as much as relevant links from authority sites in the sector. If you want to "buy" your way to the first page, the only sure way is to use adwords. Ranking for competitive terms on google is more of a long term process than an event. Check the age of the domains that are currently top ranking and look at the number of backlinks they have. Along with original content, that should give you an idea of what you need to do.
This is where all search engines are heading. Why would they want you to pay other sites, when you could be paying them directly? My gut tells me there are certain keywords that you could not get on the 1st page no matter how many links you purchased. Its hard to replace established authority and government sites.
ok, i'll be more specific, let's say the keyword is "dog breeders" about 100,000 searches a month according to overture keyword tool. Let's also assume your site is about dog breeders, it's been online for 4 years so not in the sandbox, and has a PR 4. Let's say you've been targetting "carrier dog" (8,000/month according to overture) and you have the #1 spot on google already, but now you want to go for a bigger term. Is it buyable?
Not sure what you mean by "buyable" - but you can't pay google for any position in natural SERPS. To rank well, you are going to need original content and backlinks from relevant sites that have the keyword in the anchor text. PR doesn't mean much of anything if it is coming from non-relevant sites. You could build links, issue press releases, write articles with a link to your site, buy a directory listing in Yahoo, etc., or you could purchase links from relevant sites. This is the more risker way as google is cracking down on sites known to sell links. Of course they can't identify all of them. Getting natural backlinks require the most work but are a much longer term approach. You could do it yourself or pay someone to do it for you - but I wouldn't trust anyone who "guarantees" a top ten ranking in google for a competitive keyword - unless you don't have to pay anything until it happens
thanks for the responses jewel. I was talking about purchasing links. I've heard that relevant links matter more before. Would you rather have 2 PR 7 links from irrelevant or 1 PR 7 from a relevant site in terms of ranking for your keyterm? If the latter is the case it would seem that paying for links from unrelated sites would be a waste of money.
Some people want a high PR for link exchange or selling. For SERPS, I would go with the relevant link but PR is divided between the number of outgoing links on a page, so a PR7 page with 1 outgoing link passes 10X the PR as a PR7 page with 10 outgoing links. If your sole purpose is SERPS, any link from a non-relevant page isn't going to help you - although it will pass PR.
It's possibel to get a really good placement (top 10 or top) with proper link building. But it really depends on what kind of links you acquire whether buy links or get them naturally.
Hi Shareway. From a little investigation I would say that it is 8 times more difficult to get the term "dog breeders" as it is to get "carrier dog". If you do indeed already have "carrier dog" licked (pardon the pun) it would be easier to get the "dog breeders" than if you were starting from scratch. HTH
Your case seems okay, probably you can! I would recommend you to buy relevant links from pages with few out going links. Also can consider paid inclusions in yahoo like directories. You will have to try other means too, but surely buying from this position can help.
