More-post requirements would only result in people running up their post-counts and result in even more junk.

I like what you're saying about a more structured BST section. It makes sense. The practicality of implementing it may not be so easy but it could work.

Submit to 1 directory and tell them that this is the "sample" :)
Yes I agree with the problem, the free review products, some of which I do not even bother to download when I see its contents. It is straight off Ebay. Not worth the time to download.

Maybe not a higher post requirement, something to do with itrader perhaps? So you can't start a thread but you can buy or trade, once you have 10 itrader you can sell? I'm not sure how successful this would be but it's heading in the right direction...

certainly I would LOVE to see a more categorized BST section, it would certainly help me and a lot of other people, I can't really see a disavantage.

I don't think anything's changed on this forum for a very very long time now, and with the growing amount of users on BST, it's only right that things get more structured. It's got to happen at some point, I just don't know why the mods and people are defiant...

monty2002 adding categories like you are mentioning would not help, seriously how many folks would be posting in the "low quality" section.

well when I said "low quality" I really meant "low price" (which tends to be low quality), they don't even have to be called that, but I am simply saying that there should be some way of distinguishing between quality writers(for example) and low quality writers, or at least, low priced and high priced.

Not only that, but other categories could be added for things like "social networking".

iTrader seems to be the way to go - post count wouldn't work as people would just spam

Freebies section is being infested though - post something there, and it will be pushed to the next page within the hour.

I do not think itrader will help I remember seeing a thread where a lady mention itrader was bought and sold at 25 cents. 10 itrader is just $2.50.

That itrader buying and selling hardly goes on anymore. and if mods are happy to ban people for bumping their threads, they should be even happier to ban people for buying and selling that sort of stuff. I would much rather see trigger happy mods in the BST section than anywhere else.

I suppose this annoys me particularly at the moment because I've had quality products get pushed from the first page within minutes by all the junk in BST, it's stopping people like me making money and also people from benefitting from the products I have created...

I think what they mean by 'buying itrader' is selling a product or service for a low price in order to pump up your iTrader.

It would be a good start to seperate buying links and selling links. As far as seperating stuff by value I think there are some major problems you would run into with that, just look at what is happening with the sub $5 items right now being moved to freebies. I legitamately purchased some sub $5 things in the recent past but can't leave iTrader because I am not sure about the status of these low-cost deals.

we need more forums stuff like stumble etc.

I only buy stuff so i have no problem with low prices but it does make it hard to find good stuff to buy:(.

And all the threads i have to spend hours pming or asking for pm (just a trick so they get there post bumped)

    so I vote.
    New forum for stumble etc.
No to post pm for more info.

The move to get <$5 to the freebies section was a good move.

Remember that the more forum categories will only mean more work for the mods to move things around (If we broke up the 'Services' forum, lots of threads will be placed in the wrong section) - I think everything is fine for now.

Post pm is no choice for somethings for eg Digg, which will block you if they catch you doing this. So definitely have to PM them the url rather than post it online.

What if you had the front page being when you first sign up, you had to take a quiz that would TEST you after you signed up. Maybe developing a script that would have Artifical Intelligence to stop you from posting mindless crap.

For example, if someone starts to post saying "review copy plz, please" The A.I bot would stop you mid phrase and say something to the effect of making you aware of your posts.

The value of buy/sell/trade has downsized incredibly. I see things as being more independant based, because value and quality aren't being found. Something is starting to come out. People are starting to slowly pick the bad apples from the good apples. I know this is a tough market to compete in but always remember, the winners always come out on top in the end.

The issue for such is this is a very big forum, I guess it must be a really power cluster of multiple servers, to add in artificial intelligence, you need to consider two factors

    1. The additional load to the server, is it worth the extra load which can be large.
    2. The mods needed to do this on the Vbulletin. Not something easy to do.

In the end we still need human moderators to do the jobs I guess.

I know another forum I go on rewards 10 rep points for every positive iTrader - possibly this is the answer?

Hang on... I've just rethought about it - It's more a problem with newer users (or old banned users to sign up again). Perhaps a longer period before posting in BST?

Totally agree with you mate. :)

Without stricter rules though Im not sure what can be done, theres always going to be cheapos, rip off merchants and scumbags roaming around.

Okay, here's my thought on how to improve the current situation - create an additional, structured and PAID-FOR B/S/T section.

Leave the other section operating as it is but introduce this new area.
The current junk-market would allow people to keep trading there and the paid-for stuff would be helpful to weed out much of the dross, particularly if it was structured properly beforehand.

Just like SitePoint? Wonderful idea :)

A bit more monies for the admins and mods - keeping them alive as well as keeping the decent threads alive too.

If you (the seller) are willing to invest in buying a good thread in an exclusive forum, then it will be worth it in sales.

    +1 for the idea :)
