Buy Sell Trade Etiquette

I am kind of new here on DP but I have been quietly looking at the buy/sell/trade channels. I think it doesn't take long to realize that you need to be careful with business dealings here on the Internet. My question is about etiquette in the buy/sell/trade channel - particularly when it comes to posting in other people's sales threads.

I have noticed a few people selling sites claiming to be 100% original material, but they are nothing but direct copies of other websites. Is it inappropriate for me to point that out in their sales threads if they are being blatantly dishonest? Or is the general consensus that I should just move on and mind my own business?

It seems to me from reading some of the other forums on DP that this is a place where we can all share information and help out one another. It just really irks me when I see someone trying to rip off some new person.

    Just my sqrt(4) cents

I (think) you should say in the thread that either their site has been copied or they have copied someone elses site (giving a link where possible) if that ever comes up, saying nothing helps no one.

    Thanks for the reply.

What I actually did earlier when I saw it was ask a question. Didn't really want to accuse someone of something, but I asked:

"Do you also own rippedoffsite? It has exactly the same content?"

I think that is perhaps the best way to settle it. I just know people can get real funny when you butt into their business dealings. But I also know I would feel horrible if I saw a scam coming and someone got ripped off because I failed to mention anything.

    Hi,

How you handled it was exactly what I was going to suggest. I definitely think it's wise to bring it to everyone's attention, but you never know -- maybe the other website was copied from them, or there's some other legitimate reason. (Although nothing else legitimate comes to mind!)

Anyways, I think you handled it perfectly! Great job and thanks for looking out for all the newbies! :)

    Liz

If someone is blatantly ripping another site off I think it's best to expose it. I know if I was buying a site I'd appreciate it if someone pointed that out to me so that I don't waste my money.

If they're claiming it to be 100% original material and you know it's been used before, you should definately bring it up. No one needs these scum around!
