I've decided to put a "Buy me a Beer" button (a simple donate by paypal) on my blog.

You can read to whole post here.

what Do You think about that kind of things - is it worth it?

I think it's worth it when the person actually has good posts and good content. Good enough content so that I person be inclined on sending them money. I would NEVER send anyone a penny unless I really liked their writing.

Technically, what you *should* do is allow the reader make a donation of their own amount. Asking for a set donation of $5 won't go down well with many people. Especially when you're asking for them to buy you a beer - I could get TWO beers for that price! :p

I don't actually know how to do it, that user can choose himself how much he would like to donate... can he change the donate amount after he log in in paypal? I would check it, but paypal won't allow me to send money to myself :p...

I have seen it done on numerous blogs, and again on Dreamhost's 'donate for hosting costs' feature. It's relatively simple to integrate, a bit of custom modding to fit into your site design is easily achievable. For the source code, go to this:

If you have right crowd and good content i bet some will buy you a beer. I would also let them donate what ever they want.

Depends on what the subject matter is.

There's some subjects I wouldn't feel comfortable buying someone a beer over. I would definitely reconsider everything I'd read about financial planning if you looked like a drunk begging for beer money. I'd rather buy you lunch.

For something college kids might read, a beer could be good though.

It's just a donate to button like the one people can use for Paypal, right? There is no actual beer being bought I believe.
