I use Web CEO which is very helpful but the hard work should be done by yourself :)

Achieve more? No. Do it faster? Yes. A good SEO company has the experience and can get the work done very quickly. Will cost though.

You can do it yourself just as well. But if you have no prior experience, you will of course spend a lot of time learning what needs to be done. Some will tell you a lot of different things, others will say only a few matter. Everyone has an opinion.

I would encourage you to do it yourself. If this is a new site, the time it takes to get out of the sandbox will give you the time to educate yourself. Software, just automates most of the stuff you can do yourself. The only thing I like is the serps tracking some have.
