I was looking to buy a domain name. When I go through hostgator, they ask $15 for domain name and hosting around $6.95/ month for 1yr. But bluehost gives domain name absolutely free if hosted for 1yr. Why hostgator charging so much?
most would recommend not buying domain names through web hosts. could make it a headache if you want to move hosts or even sell the domain name.
Just buy the domain through godaddy or another registrar. That is what I prefer doing because it can be a pain as abercrombie has stated above when you move hosts or want to sell your domain/website.
I would recommend you register your domain name at name.com and buy your hosting at hostgator.com it will also be good if you change your host in future....
a lot of domainers think it is too high risk to register and host domains at the same place. also, you can register names for about $7, so that $15 deal is not very competitive.
Thanks for all the replies. If I had gone to hostgator for support then the problems in reselling the domain may be remained unknown to me. Your all suggestions were help full. rep+
At Name.com domains are even cheaper, $5.99 plus free Google Apps and they don't charge hidden ICANN fees like GoDaddy does, but back to the OP's original question, every company and reseller manage domain registration at their sole discretion. In example, I run a reseller hosting service and my domain registration prices are over $10 or included for free in paid hosting packages but they are not cheap, while Servage offers a $6.45/month hosting with free domain for life and this is for real since I have an account with them since 3 years ago and I have never been charged for renewal but notified every time they pay for it.
I do not recommend to buy domain and hosting from same company. Because it is easy to move host/domain registerer if you are having both with different company without any issues. you can buy domain name from GoDaddy and buy the hosting from blue host or hostgater.
