I need some help here. If I put a button advertising on a high PR site will search engines count it like a text link or not? Are text links better? And are button ads good for SEO at all? I'm pretty new to all this so thanks in advance.
Yes, text links are "better" cause they pass anchor text. I'm not sure, but on an image link, the ALT-tag text might be taken into account. Pagerank will be passed from an image link anyway, so it's not going to hurt you.
It depends what you want most out of the link, if its traffic, go with the button image link, else go with a simple anchor text link, both have advantages & disadvantages compared to each other, just depends what you want most and the purpose of it.
In seo terms text link does better, but anyway you can use image button and give the link a title with your keywords, something like <a href="yoursite" title="Your keywords"><img src="#" width="XX" height="XX" alt="Your website" /></a> In image linking, the title performs as anchor text (not as good as anchor text, but close) Anyway if you are strictly trying to have SEO benefits than go with text link if it makes you feel better, but if you want to touch both seo and traffic i would go with banner button all the time. Hope this helps.
if the button images has atg tags , that link will be counted as a backlinks. this will be counted as a backlink with anchor txt
This is a good comment, a banner will most likely get you a better click-through rate and so more traffic than a text link, but the text link will probably contribute better in SEO terms.
I'd rather go with a text link, I find them much more attractive and buttons can be annoying at times, I would rather click a text link than a button. Meti
Thanks for the replies! The thing is the site I want to advertise on only offers button advertising, so I was a bit worried if the buttons are good for SEO. I'm not really looking for a lot of traffic, I want backlinks from high PR sites, but if you guys say the buttons work fine, I guess I'll go for it.
