Business section is far from professional

    Hi,
I joined DP about 2 mo ago and I felt really happy here since I can always get much more replies than at any other forums.
However, I find out recently the replies I got are of good quantity but of bad quality.
Especially in the business section, people tend to trash the thread with any insults come to their minds. IMO, if you don't like my domain or offer or prices you can simply ignore the thread rather than trashing the whole thread. This is basic forum etiquette and professionalism.

    Examples:
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=967076&postcount=10
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=965396&postcount=2
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=953963&postcount=6
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=965164&postcount=5

I recommend the mods here carry out some policies to reduce this kind of replies. Otherwise I would rather pay for the listing fee on some other forums to get a clean atmosphere to do business.
I like DP and that's why I post here. Hope you could understand.

    Regards,

    duskdawn

What types of policies do you propose?

Also, do you have an example of what you're referring to?

i cannot comment much on this, but most here are webmasters, i hope shawn shd be able to answer this or few mods here.
even i myself noticed this happen today at my own thread, but im kinda ok with it, coz if there is one off topic reply in between there are 5-6 replies to the point.

    my example is right here
i have created a thread for selling sig , but theres some one who is writing about his sig auction website in the thread
i have no offence with that person, and i even dont mind that, but its just to give a example nothing more

The first one- the guy is banned.

The second one- While not necessary, not bothersome either- IMO.

The third one- I see no problem with. He was answering a question.

If you can't deal with people asking questions, I don't know what to tell you.

It's not about asking and answering questions. If you cannot understand what is professionalism when it comes to business, I don't know what to tell you either.

BTW, don't quote me on this, I just spent 2 mins finding the above example threads. If you frequent business section a lot you should know what kind of posts I am talking about.

Well please find some good examples then. If it's such a problem it should be easy for you.

But if you're referring to people asking (what you perceive as) stupid questions, then sorry.

Also, there is a report post feature available for posts you think are breaking rules or problematic.

It's easy enough for you to ignore the unrelated comments as well - I'm not sure I would consider the references you gave as "insults" nor an attempt to trash your thread.

You should also consider that this is an international forum and what some members might consider rude or arrogant other would consider as terse. The posting guidelines are pretty lenient compared to other forums, so it's really up to you to decide if this is the place you wish to conduct business.

3 of the examples you provided aren't threads that you participated in, much less started so I don't really understand your concern?

    I don't bother, check yourself.
A percent of the replies are irrelavant to the goods but simply comments.
If you ignore this kind of comments, you can always say you are fine with it. But this is really annoying since no one is asking for a discussion or appraisal.

Thanks. You made some point here. I am trying to post my concern even if it's not my own thread. I don't think I did anything wrong with this report. After all the whole thing is about a community. If majority prefer the way some of the policies are applied, as a member here, I am fine too. Not a big deal for me to ignore it.
But again, this is a suggestion and my 2 cents.

It would be more useful if you suggested specific policies that were enforceable. The suggestion as you made it sounds like you want every post in the business section to be pre-moderated (read by a moderator and checked for approvals by the thread starter).

That isn't very practical when it comes down to it.

Thank you for the reply, Shawn,
I don't think it is necessary either to pre-mod any thread. An easy way can be done to include something in the forum rules.

But again, just my suggestions. You have the full rights where the forum goes.

Every day, I get a laugh when I come here.
    Today, it is this one!
    Good one fryman!!!

But true, on ebay, I can sell a product and not get one single email asking me a question about it.
Here, I post a product for sale, and the questions never end.

i would support shawn, how can you expect every post in business section to be premodded & professional.
Everyone is not a professional here and professional not always reply to everyone's threads.
If you can't accept the replied just go where fryman suggested ;) @ Ebay is your next home.

I particularly appreciate the fact that the helpful people here at DP help to keep each other from being cheated by scammers.

It sounds to me like you want to protect the scammers from public criticism. I am strongly opposed to that.

I have been taking the advice some of our so called respected members are giving and going to other forums or sites. I'm sick of seeing new members or inexperienced members face the DP insider code of acceptence and the red rep squad. Nice advice, go somewhere else or welcome, here's some red for being from a different culture. What's up with that?

I still get alot of good info as I wade through the rudeness, but it's not worth the effort sometimes.
