I love the photographs, but I am not gonna lie. The photography industry online is pretty difficult. Most people who buy any form of art want to see it up close and personal. Granted, you could always create a website just to display your work but making money might be a totally different ballgame.

I can't say I'm experienced in the field, but I would imagine most photographers make their money from weddings and other special occassions.

    Thanks.
Do you think having a shop would help?

You should investigate first if there is a demand for such photographs.
To tell you the truth, unless you take photos of celebrities, I don't think you'll make it.

Its a shame thats what it comes to but its true.

Somebody could be really good with photography and take a really nice picture, however a newbie could get a pic of a celeb and get lots of $$$$.

ya, you're not going to make much online... if you offer your art free to use online for certain apps like background images for social networking or for contact tables.. then you should start getting repeat visitors... however, charging online is a different story... no one really wants to pay for illustrations on the internet.. its more of a free to watch arena.. ^_^

What about starting a site based around stock images with a subscription cost?

I think it might work online, but not offline. Too much overhead to be profitable.

I think that you'd be better off trying to sell them through brokers like istockphoto.com and flicker just did a deal with someone where they'll sell photos in their database and give you a percentage.

Or what about instead of selling to iphoto why dont i make my own site like istockphoto.

Start it off as a free service. Then add a monthly/yearly subsciprtion cost.

you would need so much cake to start up a site like that. to have anything near decently competitive you need a bulletproof coder and a designer, which can run you into the ten's of thousands...easily..good luck.
