    Hi there,

    My question is still unsolved.

Let's say I register a company in my country with a name of ABC Tech.

I put the word ABC Tech in Goolge and see 10 more companies with the same name but in the different parts of the world.

I have to start a web based business so I want to know that will there be any conflict with the other same business names. How to solve this problem?

I will really appreciate any help in this matter.

    Best Regards

Simple make sure you find a name where you can get the .com .biz .net and etc Don't take chances. I have seen before when someone has a great program or site and it gets taken from under them by someone who simply takes another .something

if they are all in different countries...i don't THINK it would be a problem (i'm no lawyer though)...

but if you search google and find 10 companies with that name...why would you still want to use that name?...that would just make it harder for you...

think of a name that isn't in google yet...

It depends much on where do you leave, where do you going to run your business, and what rights other companies registered for their companies...

So, there are many "If...", so I'd recommend to find some unique name. Also, laws are changing and if you don't have any legal problems today, then there is no guaranty you will not have problems in future.

    What happened?

Not necessarily.. once you register it, it'll be part of your trademark. So, whoever uses the name again will be violating it.

If the name of the company you want to register is already in existence in any state in United State, you will not be allowed to register the same name again. I believe it's the same overseas. As for online presence, if for example abctech.com is already taken, it's taken all over the world but you can use abctech.org, abctech.biz, abctech.net, etc. unless they are taken too in which case you have to use a different combination like abctec.com or abcteck.com, etc. I hope this is of help and let me know if you require further clarification.

I think you should work in reverse. Get the URL, then register the company in that name.

excellent tactic...and in my opinion as well this is how it should always work...make sure you have your plot of land before you build the building...

Not quite true. It's much more complicated than that. Two companies can operate in different states in the US under the same name, even offering the same services / products if they only operate in that location. If a company operates nationally, there can still be other companies with that same name operating in the country, just in different industries.

Just get the domain and advertise it well. Don't worry about all the other extentions.

I only own one of mine and seem to be doing better them ever.

this is only good advice if you don't plan on hitting it big...

if you every make it to a decent sized site...it'll be good to have the other tlds....just to prevent people from trying to grab them and start using your name....

If i see 1 company with the same name (regardless of country) I go back and try to come up with a new name. I dont like to take chances.
