I currently run a forum and have received interest from several sponsors. The problem is that I have not incorporated. It is unappropiate to create and invoice and bill them under my own personal name? Do I need to start a company for this? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you
you can form a sole proprietorship and use your ss# ... but just faking it would be very illegal.. unethical? maybe but illegal? definitely
sorry im confused what do u mean faking it? He can use his real name, or he can register a sole proprietorship and then create a business bank account and then deposit everything there.. also when u say ss#? u talking about socialsecurity?
by faking it i mean have a fake business name or what not.. for example lets say his website is "X Y" and he puts "X Y" on the invoice, i would think thats illegal and by ss i mean social security
oh well he wants to bill them under his personal name. hmm i think you could do that actually. that part kind of went over my head.. you could file a 1099 probably
Im not trying to fake anything. Since I have not incorporated yet, I plan on billing under my personal name and account. Is this appropiate?
You can just go get a DBA and you should be ok... Yes, you can bill under your own personal name... however, why not go to the county and get a DBA and take that piece of paper to the bank to have an account open under that "name" for now?
DBA = doing business as it basically says that you are doing business as .. blahblahblah its cheap and quick
why not just form a company? in UK it costs about £30 and then £15 every year to renew. business name = more professional imo.
I've known people who have done things with personal accounts, and don't have a business setup. I don't think it is necessary, but as far as legal/illegal I'm not sure.
