I'm going to be opening a simple hosting business soon.

I am wondering what does thou require to make my own domains?

say if someone wanted to order hello.com, how would I process hello.com so I have it on my own threshold?

    thanks for reading.

I see, but what if I wanted to actually OWN the domain, say on my own server?

Don't open a hosting company. It was my first web business. Too many people to compete with.

yes. its not worthfull to complete with the BIG fish in the market. Its good that you are having tat dream, what i can suggest you is to direct contact the ICANN and also have your own hosting data-centers.

    thank you

Unless you really understand the market I'd advise against doing hosting/domain registrations. I've been putting my hosting company together for two months now and it's still not fully operational. Aside from the technical issues, you also have to deal with a lot of legal ramifications, which sadly most new hosting companies ignore until they get sued for millions.

However if you must, there are a few ways to approach this:

    • Reseller - You can signup with a major domain registrar such as Enom.com. They will enable you to act as a domain reseller through them, and you will form your own entity. However you are bound by their policies and prices, so it's not as profitable.
    • Direct - You establish a domain authority. You set the prices and policies. Way higher markup, way higher risk and investment required. You're looking at several million USD to go down this path, mostly in legal fees.

Either way, you don't actually own any of the domains that people register through you. You actually just hold onto them and manage them.

With the domain name management tool & WHM you can easily manage domain names of your client.
