I think OFFLINE marketing of sites is probably one of the more overlooked promotion methods out there. I usually keep business cards no matter what. I would go for a nice professionally printed card though instead of a homemade print on business card stock.

The pens/refrigerator magnets are good ideas (especially the pens). We are covered over in refrigerator magnets and I suspect we're not unlike many folks - we clean them out from time to time.

One bit of advice on the pens - make sure they're not cheap. It will be a poor reflection on you. Go for nice pens if you're going to do it.

Oh - another thought - depending on your business and target market - tshirts might be used. You may want to pick and choose times to give them away and times to sell them (hopefully at least at a rate to help you pay for your free ones?) You could even do a design contest for something like that - contests can be good promotions. With the shirts though another idea is to put something that might be though provoking or at least curiosity provoking on one site and maybe the web address on the back.

Branding is very important for success. I forgot to mention that my company is Print and Promotion Solutions meaning I can do it all. From Cards to promotional items.

Ill be glad to hook up DP members who are in the US.

If you are going to do some cards try or least think about having two versions. You can test which ones pull in the most visitors by directing each of them to something like www.site.com/offer1 and 2.

Split and third testing is key.

    Good Luck!
