Bush: US Would Leave Iraq If Asked

Q Thank you, Mr. President. You say you want nothing short of victory, that leaving Iraq would be catastrophic; you once again mentioned al Qaeda. Does that mean that you are willing to leave American troops there, no matter what the Iraqi government does? I know this is a question we've asked before, but you can begin it with a "yes" or "no."

THE PRESIDENT: We are there at the invitation of the Iraqi government. This is a sovereign nation. Twelve million people went to the polls to approve a constitution. It's their government's choice. If they were to say, leave, we would leave.

Q -- catastrophic, as you've said over and over again?

THE PRESIDENT: I would hope that they would recognize that the results would be catastrophic. This is a sovereign nation, Martha. We are there at their request. And hopefully the Iraqi government would be wise enough to recognize that without coalition troops, the U.S. troops, that they would endanger their very existence. And it's why we work very closely with them, to make sure that the realities are such that they wouldn't make that request -- but if they were to make the request, we wouldn't be there.

Guess it depends on who does the asking..

"We are there at the invitation of the Iraqi government" lol

Why can't I see a word "democracy" there? :) I guess Saddam invited them too, then.

The average joe iraqi is glad that the US is there and does not want the US to leave because they know there government wouldnt survive. Please dont take that statement saying Bush is good but he is right if the US pulled out right now Iraq would go to hell more than it is now. Ask any soldier thats been to Iraq and they'll say the same thing, If we pull out now the Iraq government will collapse. Thanks to the new DoD approach where we are spending more time training Iraqis and less time doing everything ourselves I believe Iraq could have a chance to survive when the new democratic president pulls us out in 09.

You mean alex jones nuts, right? They always seem to know what the rest of the world doesn't and have a habit of telling others they need to "wake up." Kind of like you!

Actually, we are there at the request of the Iraqi government. The Iraqi government was very disappointed when democrats started calling for "surrender."

If we pull out before they are ready to take over, I can't even fathom what would happen. Apparently people like AGS can, because he wants nothing more than for the US to pull out so terrorists can take over Iraq. I've never understood how someone could hate an entire country so bad as to wish that upon it's people. Virtually sickening.

    You most be joking?!

Current iraq goverment is nothing more than a bunch of puppets.

They have no right to decide. Decisions always made by US authorities then passed to them.

Think it that way if Saddam occupied USA and plundered your oil and raped American girls did you still supported Saddam hussien and the puppet fake goverment that Saddam made for you?

Iraqis do support the government, do you know how they got into government in the first place? well it was by Iraqi's risking their own lives to put them in office, if that's not support your must use a different definition of the word.

And it still pisses you off doesn't? Good.... In the proper context, the mission spoke of that day, was "accomplished"... Of course I don't know what pisses off moonbats more. The fact that Bush said it, or the fact that he landed on the carrier in a Air Force Jet.

Mission "accomplished", Iraq is "democracy" and USA is "winning' the war. Too bad reality doesn't confirm to fantasy and wishful thinking and real people with real blood are dying.

Actually thanks to the people that you support since if they were not so blind by greed and desire to push up the price of oil and take control over Iraq oil reserves, they would have listened to CIA report that exactly predicted the present day failures.;)

    LOL. :D

That is putting it very mildly.

    Add the following:

    • U.S. Constitution is just a piece of paper full of BS.
    • Bush makes no mistake because he is the second reincarnation of Jesus
    • People have no rights and every one is guilty and should be tortured until prove innocent
    • Anyone who doesn't agree with above is terrorist

And you will have the complete picture. :D
