A Bush administration official believed to have played a pivotal role in the scandal over sacked prosecutors resigned yesterday, further ratcheting up the pressure on the attorney general, Alberto Gonzales, to stand down.

In a three-line statement, Monica Goodling, a senior adviser to Mr Gonzales and the justice department's conduit to the White House, gave no reason for her decision

wasn't it clinton that fired ALL 93 of the federal prosecutors? Why are you not talking about him? All Bush did was not renew the contracts of 8...this is another of the non issues (like the whole valerie plame non issue) where dems just have to have something to talk about...Bush and Gonzalez did nothing wrong...

A year ago, I had the utmost respect for bush. I didn't like him but I did respect him but in the last year, all that is gone. Yes, he is the commander and chief and yes, I respect the office and position but I can't respect him. That said, I agree that it's a non issue and the only reason it's an issue is because it's a slow news cycle. Fact of the matter is this happens all the time, when a new administration comes to power, new people are put in. While there are 1,000 responses to that, it's the presidents right to replace those positions for what ever reason. Again, don't like him but still respect the office and position and it's the right of the president to make those decisions. Don't like it? Change the constitution.

Jesus Christ I misread the title of the thread and initially thought it said "Bush officially resigns in Gonzales rowA Bush administration official believed to have"

I thought that one of the biggest failures and the largest threat to world peace ever had stepped down.

Oh well, we'll just have to wait a little while longer I suppose. :(

Oh mate when Hillary comes in I'll have equally as much fun with her. :p

I cannot see her being a worse president than Bush, he has been an absolute disaster no doubt about that. But I'm pretty sure that she will not be a very good president so we're gonna have some fun. :D
