I spent time looking at the in depth description of some recent polls. There are several of them, each sponsored by different polling/media groups. They all have slightly different numbers but show similar results and similar trends. Articles about them tend to go into more depth about each poll then we describe here. For instance all the polls point out that over a fairly long term---public support of the war in Iraq has dropped. Then the polls break down the support, describing the reactions of respondants by whether they are democratic, republican, or independant. Not surprisingly over the long term, democrats disagree with Bush and don't support the war, republicans agree with Bush and support the war, and independants are the ones who have moved the most over the long term--from support to disagreement with the administration and Bush. All groups have shown movement away from the administration. My read is that over a long term--Democrats have moved roughly from 70% disagreement to 90% disagreement; Republicans have moved from about 90% agreement to 70% agreement; and independants have moved the most from about 70% agreement to about 70% disagreement. (my quick estimates on a bunch of polls going back a few years since the war in Iraq has been going on). Then something caught my eye in the news today....and it made me think about some other recent newsworthy events that didn't hit DP's P&R section This month two newsworthy events hit about elected leaders within the Republican party--people who vote on, are in the news, are leaders, and articulate the views of the roughly 70% who describe themselves as in support of the war in Iraq and the Bush administration. Our two newsworthy leaders--David Vitter, Senator from Louisiana and Florida State Representative Bob Allen. How did these leaders make the recent news? Vitter was found to have solicited sex from a prostitute...and has acknowledged it Bob Allen? He's a winner- He got caught soliciting a BJ from an undercover male cop Hey hey wait a minute! What are there voting records like? I looked them up a bit: Excerpts on Vitter: Per an in depth vote by vote tally comparing his vote with the majority of his party--by the Washington Post--Vitter has supported majority Republican party topics 86%. Pretty solid Republican. Some excerpts--· And here is the winner Okay so Vitter cheated on his wife with prostitutes and simultaneously is rated 100% by the Christian Coalition and is an elected representative of the Republican Party and a leader of the people who generally support the administration....then we got Bob Allen, a Florida State Representative. Again....he got snagged on July 12 soliciting a bj from a MALE undercover cop in Tallahassee. Here are excerpts from his voting record: source: http://www.vote-smart.org/issue_rating_category.php?can_id=53840 That guy is a real winner. In fact he seems similar to the Republican Congressman from Florida who recently resigned because he was coming on to young male interns in Congress. So I guess I have concerns about the judgement of the 70% of Republicans who loyally support Bush and guys like this let alone the judgement of those who dramatically support Bush here at the friendly DP P&R forum.
This is great news for all of the neocon wannabees in the DP poli forum. Guys, if you get oral pleasure from a same sex prostitute, you will still have enough support to lead the party from the Christian Right. Tell Dad it's ok to come out of the closet. Hallelujah!
I have to disagree, Bush is more or less just a puppet. Henry Kissinger is one of the most dangerous men alive today.
