Either war could be won. There is not a force on this earth that the U.S. military could not achieve victory over -- in the absense of political influences. We were not willing to win the Vietnam war. Nixon knew this, so he pulled us out. If you will recall, we were in Vietnam because of Kennedy and Johnson. It remains to be seen if we are willing to win the global war with Islamist fundamentalism -- or even the small portion of that campaign currently fought in Iraq. If we are not willing to win in Iraq, it does not bode well for the willingness of Western civilization to win the larger conflict or the odds of Western civilization to survive at all. Some one has to stop consolidation of musilm fundamentalists and i dont think Bush is doing that. He is providing them a platform to unite and the cartoons have helped such fundamentalists to garner support throughout the world. The fundamentalists r getting stronger.
Sure, when you raise the stakes (record oil prices caused by Iraq invasion) people are MORE WILLING TO FIGHT (The Russians and Iran) for the resulting wealth this war has given to Russia and Iran! They hope the war never ends! The Russians and Iran are laughing all the way to the bank as they are oil producing nations, while America goes in debt for Generations all while Bush and Cheney give Exxon World Record Profits never seen in the history of the oil business! I agree to a great extent. The fence sitters are having all the fun and praying that war gets prolonged. The might of US is being challanged by guriellas. Are we going to see a repeat of Vietnam or Afganistan's reversed scenario.

Is the US paying the price for creating the frankeistein all over the world over a considerable period of time? Laden, Taliban, Saddam? I feel unlike the cold war there is not a face off between US and Russia. But they are still fighting for world supremecy. Russia must be enjoying the mess the US is in.
Sure thing, Putin is getting filthy rich off of this deal, he is even bragging that he has nuclear missiles that the USA can not stop, so we are playing Russian Roulette for sure and Putin is a mad man not to be messed with! The Russians are ruthless against rebels in chechniya. But they dont let the news to leak out much. But whatever US does it gets maximum coverage. No doubt it has become enemy no 1 for fundamentalist. Russia doesnot come into anyones picture. It seems all the fundamentalists are obsessed with US and its core allies. Though terrorism is global phenomenon its the US which is bearing the brunt of it from all sides.
Do you consider Pakistan as an ally. It created Taliban. All the terror networks are entranched there and Laden is also supposedly hiding there. Its unlikely that Laden is not having the support of Pak government
