Has Bush done the right thing by offering nuclear technology to India?

Sure, because he wants to keep an eye on the real Tiger, China....

China is the greatest threat ever to the United States and is passing us like we are standing still, Bush policy has made Russia and China filthy rich and he feels that more war (invading Iran) is the only solution to gaining some of it back (US Power), but that will lead to WWIII as Russia and China will not just sit back and watch us take over Iran!

India has more people in their middle class than the entire population of the USA with little energy to support their economy which is increasingly tied to the USA technology industry, so it is natural that the USA is going to push Nuclear power plants on India because they have not been able to build a new one in the USA for over 20 years because of legal and regulatory problems!

We got to sell that garbage somewhere! :D

Bush is a huckster for the Nuclear, Oil and now the Ports Industry! :D

There can be another way out for India. Make them fight the War in Iraq and now in all probabilities Iran.

India doesnt need US for nuclear status...India developed its nuclear capabilities decades ago.

Bush has done a wise thing.

    It has two benefits

    1. It allows India to get energy . India's booming economy will need more and more energy in years to come. Nuclear energy will not substitute crude oil , but will lessen the demand a bit.

    2. Now India's nuclear facilities (atleast some of them ) are open to inspection ...this ensures that India doesnt proliferate its nuclear technology.

There is an alternate theory too...the anti-China theory. China is a known trouble maker and in future it may get involved in disputes with the western world over economic policies , Taiwan , human rights issues etc. US needs a strong ally in Asia , who can match China, not only in economic strength but military strength too. Some feel this energy centric theory is just a cover for the US to enpower India with more sophisticated weapons than it currently has.
