Oddly enough, global warming, whatever it's cause will ultimately result in more major earthquakes and seismic activity due to the relatively rapid removal of the weight of hundreds of thousands of years worth of ice from the antarctic and arctic plates, causing a shift in the tectonic stresses and allowing movement where previously the weight of ice had curtailed it.
I guess no one really wants to comment on this data! http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=603995&postcount=12 Even though cities like Miami, San Diego and New York City could be under water one day soon!
I don't comment on any Washington Post story with the following phrases: and my favourite: huh? What is "potentially imminent"
I seen an expert on TV that specifically mentioned San Diego and Miami being two cities in GRAVE DANGER, he was the same guy that warned about New Orleans before it happened......
Just about everyone warned about that one...Its not a stretch to say a city that is built under sea level is in danger. Especially one with crumbling and inadequite levies.
The city is sinking and ocean levels rising, but many think global warming is the main cause of the increased hurricane activity also!
Burning trash and putting it in land fills is a major issue that we have to deal with, the main thing is to engage in recycling electronics (computers and other appliances) and forcing manufacturers to use packaging that is non-toxic when burned so we can incinerate trash without major heavy metals going into the air!
Face it guys, look at what mankind has done to the earth, I seen a story about computer recycling, you know how it is done, we ship them to China and the poor people try to extract metals out of them in the dump sites polluting the entire city and kids have to walk on broken glass! http://www.mindfully.org/WTO/Computers-Go-To-Die23nov02.htm http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=China's+poor+recycling+computers&btnG=Google+Search We as a people must demand that these computers are recycled and we must put pressure on lawmakers to move, forcing the manufacturers to take them back and control the recycling of them so they are not burned destroying the earth and people!
And then when a computer costs 3 times as much you will blame Bush and his computer company cronies. By the way we pay extra for every appliance already to supposedly be recycled (which just means the store will throw your old appliance in their dumpster) http://www.weeerecycle.ie/index.html
Yeah, it probably is since the ocean isn't being cooled by the antarctic ice cap as much as it was and hurricanes draw their power from the ocean. Anyway, not what I wanted to say. Spare a thought for Mexico City. It is already sinking due to the geography of the region it was built upon. Rising sea levels, even small rises, will have a major impact on this city with 20 million population.
yfs1, let me tell you a little story! I grew up in the Rubber industry (Tire Manufacturing business), well Goodyear, General Tire, BF Goodrich and Firestone had a common dump site that they used to dump 55 gallon drums full of industrial chemicals in for years.... Remember Erin Brockovich Well they found out years later that the dump site was killing people because all of the wells had chemicals in them. Lawsuits forced these multi Billion dollar companies to go back years later and pay for the clean up and pay millions to victims! We need laws NOW, Bush does not want those laws passed and it will be years before the next administration pushes them through in the USA. You can bet the Republicans don't give two shits about issues like these that are critical to the collective future of all the world's citizens!
