I was looking at Burst Media's site as I'm interested in becoming a publisher. I saw this in the application, and you have to agree to it... does any one know what it means?? What is the Burst Media Video Suite ?? I've tried searching but can't find any info about it. I also tried 'requesting that Burst Media contact me', and I never got a response other than an automated 'we got your msg'. Anyone here a Burst Media publisher and have some info on them??
Hey, Burst Media was acquired by Blinkx last year with the goal of leveraging Burst's independent web community against Blinkx's syndicated video partnerships and technology. The Burst Video Suite is their new offering that allows Burst Publishers to receive high quality content video from a variety of partners [Blinkx Syndication Partners] and then monetize the video through pre-roll. To date I know they offer a video bar and a full page channel player along with a contextual [resizable] dynamic video player. The neat thing is that the publisher's already have access to Blinkx Pre-Roll partnerships to monetize the players, along with any direct sales that Burst has. They are supplying the relevant video content and the method in which to monetize the content. They can monetize a publisher's own video content as well. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the reply! So it means that I'm required to show video ads? Do you happen to know if they have a muted-only option? (I am strongly against audio ads).
As are most publishers I think. The difference is that this is video content and not an "ad" in a 300x250 box, which I think a lot of publishers might be thinking. Any engagement with the video would be because your users are interested in the relevant video content and then engaged with it. At that point, the user would naturally expect sound. I know that there is a big difference in the revenue earned from pre-roll which is an industry standard min 380px width, and "in-banner" video which is where a lot of publishers are seeing non muted video ads in 300x250 ad units.
