Burning DVDs

Well I have had a DVD burner forever but now I finally want to use it.

I have about 3 gigs worth of .avi movies and I want to put them on a DVD.

Is there any free software that is easy to use that can put .avi files to DVD so I can watch them on a DVD player?

I know adding that last part sounds wierd but I wasted 1 DVD already because it didnt play in my DVD player (which is new and should support it).

did the drive come with any bundled SW?
probably not if you're asking right!!!

a lot of times they will though, even if it's a stripped version of Nero.

I do not know of any titles right off the top of my head - whenever I need SW I go to http://www.download.com/

I find that's usually a good place to start.

    Edit:

    also found these,

    Boilsoft_AVI_to_VCD_SVCD_DVD_Converter

    YASA_AVI_MPEG_Converter

and actually this one might top those since it has a burning feature:

    Amor_AVI_DivX_MPEG_to_VCD_DVD_Creator

    Windows XP?

I am fairly sure you can just send them to a burn file and burn from the OS.

You would have to buy the latest version of Nero 7+ as the older ones don't work with XP. They do for copying audio cd's but it hangs with regular files.

BUT he's talking about a video DVD he can play on his home DVD player(MPEG-2 files), not just a data DVD with files on it (AVI's).

I've used Nero 5&6 with XP??

Sure you can burn data cd/dvd with XP but I don't think you can render (and certainly not convert) video files - that's why my Acer LT came with a separate program (NTI CD & DVD-Maker 7) specifically to burn files and VIDEOS to cd/dvd

My suggestion for you is to buy a DVD player that supports MPEG and AVI playback. Mine was really cheap, about $99. This way, you can just burn the AVI files as data DVD's, without having to encode everything.

    Hope this helps. wahoo.

ummmm - The one and only "DVD Decrypter" is no more, due to unfortunate (and blatantly illegal) issues.

    besides, that's a DVD ripper.

You can't create DVD video files from AVI files with it!

there you go, now you're talking! :D :D

none of mine support file playback but that sure would be nice!!

Video rendering takes forever and a day with my puny 2GHz AMD 3200+

    -------------------------

one time I saw a wifi DVD player, where you could just play files from your PC!!!

I burn dvd's all the time.
Don't know what format the sound is in, but I created and burnt a lot of dvd's for the family of our granddaughter's school play, complete with sound and effects.
Same with taking the family music cd's and putting all of them on one dvd.
    Worked great.

Roxio does it all for me, came with the dell.

Ulead is a good trial. But you cant fit 4.7 GB of files on one DVD, I think it's based on time.

Yes it certainly does. Version 7 is the ultimate burning tool. Version 6 was very buggy though.

    This is the best suggestion.

I use to burn avi's to DVD format to play on my standard DVD player but got tired of the time it took to do it. It normally took me an hour and was a pain if i was trying to put different movies with subtitles or videos with different resoutions. Also quality gets affected as well.

I did this for 6 months and decided to buy a DivX player. I have already got my money back by using less dvd discs. One of my best buys this year.
