there was a period were i hated cj.com, i had many cases of links that i had got sales that didnt count for dumb reasons and then a period where i didnt make enough money so they charged me a fee for not making money, and thus basically voided my balance that i was carrying (but not enough to cash) however since then I have made several hundreds of $$ so I have slightly forgotton all the troubles (for now..)
Just google "affiliate link cloaking", you will know how and why you need to protect your commissions.
when you cloak a link you have no idea what site you're going to or what affiliate program its through. it even has the option to hide the Affiliate link on the homepage, plus it cleans it up and looks more like a standard link, like this.... http://offto.net/pleaseclickhere hover it, you still don't know.... but it brings you to cj.com. had it been an affiliate link cookies would already be on your computer by the time it loaded. even if you didn't buy then, say you came back to the site in a week, i would still make money... UNLESS you are an affiliate and know that I am making money off of you. then yes, i invite you to steal from me... haha. cloaking isnt perfect, its just an option for those who think its necessary. vitalbusiness, i'm from NY and i don't use AdSense.
born and raised in Loudonville, NY... a little hamlet right outside of Albany, the capital.... of New York State... in America. why, where are you originally from?
Well, because you ask these silly questions that only Indians ask (not to be hard on Indians). I mean, they always cheat and try to make something out of nothing (like milking AdSense program) and yet they almost always ask more questions (just to prove themselves right, even if they are not!) My origin? Some Eastern European country.
well, here in the states we kind of have a saying that the only stupid question is the one that goes unasked. just so you know, i didn't start this thread, nor did i ask a silly question. and personally, i don't care to hear your prejudices towards Indians. i'm sure that "cheating" isn't only designated to one geographic location. you should refer to them as cheaters, not point the finger at an entire nationality. or me for that matter.
I thought this is what you said initially. If you think this doesn't sound out of line I do not know what does. "They see the affiliate link and they just go straight to the website they want to go." They - who? Your everage visitor? Can I ask you, what on earth are you talking about? How do you know that? I've been in affiliate marketing for the last 4 years I have never heard any of that. Should I be paranoid now too?
cheating, stealing, anything unethical is out of line. but not unheard of. i think you may be paranoid that i'm making this up so check out these sites to get a better idea of link cloaking and why it may be necessary. http://www.addme.com/linkcloaker.htm http://www.selfseo.com/story-13929.php or just google it
I have had bad experience with CJ in the past. I was promoting Hosting companies, and was giving out bonuses for those who purchased hosting through my link. Bunch of people emailed me that they bought the hosting through my link and showed me their receipts, but I had no commission for it from CJ. After about 10 incidents like that I dropped CJ completely.
From the SelfSEO.com article: What tests? 30%? That's complete garbage. Do you realize how few people on the internet actually have affiliate accounts? If they wanted the commissions for themselves, why would they even be on your site in the first place? Oh, right - "up to 30%" can also mean 0%. Or close to 0%. I can tell you that this is garbage. I'm a high-performing affiliate & I also work on the advertiser end of affiliate programs. It just doesn't happen - I can guarantee you that 99.9% of the visitors that you're most likely targeting wouldn't understand what an affiliate program is if you told them.
Hi artfulaffiliate Could you give me some tips on the aspect of landing pages that convert please? Should it be like sales letter kinda landing page or ? Thx
It depends on what you're trying to sell and how you're going to market it. You can make a blog about what you're selling or a squidoo page or even a splash page. It doesn't have to be something really long or detailed. Sometimes the simplest pages get the best results. If you can just try to create several different types of landing pages even if they're all for the same product and see which ones work and which ones don't. You can read all the how to's and help articles that you want but nothing beats trial and error in my opinion. But if you still need help then here are a couple sites with good information on creating successful landing pages. http://ezinearticles.com/?How-To-Create-A-Perfect-Landing-Page&id=1190907 http://www.copyblogger.com/landing-pages/ I hope that helps.
Kenorv, this truly helps a lot as well as the DP forum in general, and I am grateful to join the DP community I'll study it and test it. Not afraid of failling
Here's the thing, most people don't know what an affiliate link is. Go out on the street, ask 20 random people what is an affiliate link. I doubt that one of those 20 will know. I have a lot of friends who are experienced computer scientists / network administrators, they deal with computers and the internet day and night for years, and they got no idea what is an affiliate link. What I'm trying to say is, don't be too paranoid about this. In most cases, only affiliate marketers (which is a very small group of people compared to the general population) will know what is an affiliate link, let alone change the user id to their id. If you're promoting a 'make-money-online' niche product, which attracts affiliate marketers, you might get a good amount of traffic from people which know what an affiliate link is, but in most niches, which attract the general public, noone will have an idea what an affiliate link is.
if i was marketing to random people on the street this would be a good point... but i'm not. computer users aren't stupid and with all the security issues surrounding them, i think people would much rather click a link that looks like http:www.mysite.com/affiliatepage as opposed to http:www.fgdfg54878sfd.com/id-4567341854 at least, i know i would... not preaching, just my two cents.
