Yes some of us are...including me I'm guilty I noticed that with most sites that I start. How in the beginning you post so many articles and comment on so many blogs...and its no different with link building. You start off contacting as many people as possible about your website and exchanging links in hopes of building up your profile in (insert your niche)...After your site gains a little momentum most people forget about the basics of link building as a great search engine and promotional tools. I was thinking about it today when thinking of some new promotional ideas for my website...and I thought to myself why not go back to the basics. You can never have enough links, or websites knowing about your site..not if your in it to make money and provide value to your advertisers or readers..depending on your type of site or what niche your in. How many of you webmasters actually use link building like you did when your site first launched?
I have a goal of at least 1 backlink a day for each site, except on weekends I think it's less tedious then trying to get 30 in one day, for instance.
you cant get lazy or get spread too thin. otherwise, income goes down the tubes. its a good idea to pace yourself and set reasonable daily goals. if you have underperforming sites that are distracting you from focusing on money making sites, drop them. focus on making your site informative and unique. then your link building efforts will be done naturally by others.
Well said. My site which is about how to start a clothing line ranks pretty good for competitive terms (as far as the fashion industry) we're number 1 for "clothing line" "clothing lines" how to start a clothing line, start a clothing line and many more, but still find it hard to gain links naturally maybe because of the nature of the site? There isn't many other sites competing against mine..maybe like three others that are actually making any money or popular, but my site seems to be leading the pack in a little over a year..most of the others have been out for 3+ or just very new. I try to switch it up a bit and place some different articles but its hard to find a balance that will get links coming in. Most of my traffic is word of mouth, or search engine, and a small part of it comes from link. Even tried coming up with some catchy articles for digg or reddit..they don't seem to like fashion at all...any suggestions? you can check the site out in the sig for an idea of what's like.
