How the hell is anybody meant to keep a discussion going if you are not allowed to bump? You guys have just reached 300k members. 70k of those are 'active'. About 30k of those are ACTUALLY active. Still, 30000 people trying to buy and sell and promote and get information means everybodies threads get pushed back quickly. If you are unlucky and nobody notices your thread, then you have to post another thread on the same topic.. oh wait, you CAN'T.

There should be an option to bump your thread once every x hours. This would keep good discussions going instead of a load of threads with 0 replies and the odd one with 5 replies.

The bumping rule is mostly intended for managing the BST section, a forum for buying and selling, not discussion.

If you look in General Chat, there are threads that go on for months and years. If the thread is interesting enough, people will post in it.

As for the for BST forums, the rule won't be changing.

Yes, my suggestion mainly applied to BST. How can a product be sold / bought if the OP is just unlucky and nobody who wants to buy it happens to see the thread at that time.

People don't only buy what's on the top of the first page. Anyone interested in a product or service will also use the search function of the forum. If it's a generic advertisement, you're not going to get any interest; if you post something specific, using proper keywords and product descriptions, buyers can find your thread anytime. The threads will even get indexed and rank for those keywords.

If we let everyone bump their threads, then your thread will be buried just as fast because everyone else will be bumping theirs, and yours will end up in the same sorry place as it was without the bumping...

So what you can do to draw more attention to your thread is to post a link to your thread in your signature, you can post your offer on other forums, and you can reply (by PM) to buyers' threads looking for similar products. If people aren't responding, consider what you're selling, what you're charging, how you've advertised it, and determine how much competition there is for a similar product/service.

Beyond that you're shit out of luck if nobody shows any interest here. There's always Sitepoint, Namepros, V7N, Warrior Forum, and others...they don't all have the same rules.
