doe's anybody know if citymaker or atomicshops are legitimate or fraudulent?,or if they represent a good way to build a viable commercial website?,they claim you can build a website without knowing HTML.
My guess is these services would be much the same as a WYSIWYG editor's wizard, which you could get for free. Still, all of these options will limit you to mostly static pages -- you can post information, but not provide any kind of interactive system. Depending on how much you are planning to spend, you may consider hiring a third party. Be very careful, however, when hiring a third party. Since the Web is such a popular medium, there are many developers greatly varying in degrees of competence.
Yeah, that's what I would think too. If you just need a WYSIWYG editor, I think there's one available with most hosting plans as well. Ex: GoDaddy's got one called "Website tonight" which is an editor. It's either free with the hosting or really cheap (not sure).
Yes ..... Most of these editors that come with hosting plans are integrated with your hosting plan. So, you just go in and click on something like "Create new page" and you get a new editor window. Here you just type in your text (like you would do in MS word, for example), select the font sizes, colours, add images .... all by pushing buttons rather than typing HTML and save!! All done, you have a new web page. Similarly, you can go back to the home page and edit it using this editor and create links between pages (by pushing the right buttons) without knowing any HTML. In fact, some hosting plans might also give you some free templates that you can use so your entire site has the same look and feel about it. I came across this website if you are willing to pay some money: http://www.flash-template-design.com (All templates are in flash but are not free). I would recommend trying to find a free one first though, since you are just starting out. Regards, dfsweb
thanks dfsweb!,anything you can share with me along the lines would be greatly appreciated!, and now,a tricky,i suppose, question?,do you think a page built this way would be rotten on SEO because of the way it was built?
That depends on which editor you are using. Unfortunately, most of these editors are not perfect and you might find that they create really messy (and crowded) HTML code. Ex: If you have a piece of text that you want to make bigger and in the process of finding the correct size for it, you change the font five times ..... some editors don't remove the previous 4 font tags and you might end up with 5 tags where you only need one. Google (imo) doesn't like this messy HTML. Plus, the file will end up being much bigger than it should be, hence causing slower loading times. Usually, this won't be a problem though. Only a problem if the editor isn't very good and if there is a lot of content on your page that you have edited often. Sometimes they even have a little button at the top that says "Clean HTML code" or something and you can click on this right at the end before saing the file and it removes all extra tags etc.

thanks dfsweb!,might you know of an editor that doesn't require knowing html but is good as regards "clean html code" etc.?,also is HTML code, which i am under the impression use's java, intrinsically google and search engine unfriendly?
I don't know of any editors as I have never used any! In terms of paid ones, you can buy an offline one like Frontpage and it will create nice clean HTML code. I'm not too sure if I understand your 2nd question completely but HTML and Java are two separate things. And knows how to read HTML, if that's what you are asking.
thanks dfs web!,I am hazy on all this, sorry, but i thought i read under google criteria that they didn't like anything that use's java scripting
thanks! ronmojohny ,i have bookmarked your website and will begin studieng it, than i will contact you with any questions etc.
Sking: I would really recommend just learning HTML. It's a very basic language, and shouldn't take you more than a week to figure out.
It really depends on what kind of websites do you need. Most of the times, those auto websites generator will only generate simple html pages. If you'd like to have more professional look of your own design that you like, customized to suit you, then no doubt you have to look for someone to do it for you.
Building a site without knowledge of the technology that underlies it is sort of like assembling furniture. You can buy cheap, particle board disassembled furniture at a store, and it will take you much less time to put it together than learning how to craft your own furniture and make it, but the quality will always be second-rate, if you're lucky. If the results are good enough for you, then great, they're good enough. But if you're really talking about a professional engagement, then there are all sorts of issues about which you're not even scratching the surface. Those issues include strength of your branding, accessibility issues from a user standpoint, accessibility issues from a legal standpoint, the affects of the technology being used to make your site function, efficiency in engineering, efficiency in terms of how your site can make your business run better, ways of generating traffic, ways of keeping quality visitors loyal to your site, etc., etc. Site builders have their place. I might use one if I had no knowledge of HTML, and I wanted to make a Web site about my cats.
