Building websites to get links?

Is it ok to build various websites and link from them to my main website? I plan to build real websites with real content on different hosts and link from these websites to one big, content-rich website. Is this ok? Will Google "hate me" for something like this?

Google will "hate" it if detects your scheme, and these days it's good at doing so. I say forget domain farms and microsites and focus on building one quality site and build real, quality links to it.

I would not make this your only way of link building. I do not think a few links like that would hurt, but I would definitely not over do it. Everything in moderation.

Yeah - I think a lot of ppl build sites off of Web 2.0 properties like Tumblr and Weebly and linked back to their main site. That was a big mistake.

Also - a lot of ppl created link wheels and G would catch up to them and sink their main site w/in the SERPs.

If you build real websites, and they all have a purpose, but they all link to each other, it's not black hat methods. Listen to the people in here. Yes, Google is against artificially increasing your backlinks and serps. They don't penalize you for owning more than one site, and everyone is going to link back to their own sites. If you start creating garbage websites and all linking to one then sure you might run into problems. It is not uncommon to host a blog on one domain, a forum on another domain, your client side on one domain, or to use domain names specifically for individual products and landing pages. As long as you aren't bloating the pages and making them obviously there just for links, and you're making real sites, then you should be fine, IMO. They also have a tag for indicating it's one of your own sites, which completely eliminates any risk with google. If you use your tags properly Google will be good to you.

I'm not planning to build some stupid, useless websites, but real websites with real unique content and this is not going to be my only link building method...I will also submit articles, comments etc.

You should do fine miksy123. The best links to have are targeted in page contextual links most of the time. Don't forget to keep reading and learning, everything's always changing and you gotta try to stay on top.

This sounds like nothing more than a linkwheel. Personally I think it is a waste of time and effort. Instead of putting all that effort into creating new sites (and it better have unique content), why not add a blog to your domain and use that for your fresh content. You will be amazed at the results.

Yeah just link directly to the site, but make sure you deep link ie link to all of the pages or the main pages of your site not just the domain.

Yes, just make sure you have seperate hosting, also known as seo hosting. They have different c-classes, that's what counts. IT looks like you want to create a mini link farm.
