Building Trust & Professionalism

Discussion in 'AdSense' started by webs, May 14, 2007.

It has been suggested to me that the best way to build trust and professionalism through new sites that utilise Adsense as their primary income is to leave the adverts of the site initially and then add them in later.

Is this a good idea or not? Does anyone have any other strategies or examples where this has/has not worked?

It certainly might help in the beginning when you are trying to build up backlinks.

I would certainly not start with more then one adsense-ad per page for starters. You won't be making that much at first anyhow - so why annoy your first visitors? But I do like the argument that if you start with a few inobstrusive ads, people can't complain if later on you add ads > like you're selling out. So make it one block of text-only ads for starters, get a decent traffic stream going, and then when you've got about 1000 visitors a day > optimize.

One ad unit is definitely enough to keep the professionalism in the site (it would be better without the ads, but you can easily blend in just one unit).

I usually drive trafic to the site first. Then when I have a steady stream of visitors then I put my ads in. The idea of one ad per page is good too as long as it blends well.

Thanks, you all seem to have very similar viewpoints which would suggest that your ideas are correct. As does your experience :) As for placing the single ad unit on my page where would you recommend? In the header? Any other ideas?

I was totally against adsense on my websites. i very carefully placed my ads about 6 months from the launch. i still hate them on it,..but thy make enough money for me to keep them there.

But im all about brand and brand quality.

I've personally found that ads in the middle of the page work best when first trying to get visitors. They have usually seen what they came to see by then anyway.

Could you elaborate on that statement? What do you think of the "brand" that my site currently portrays?

When it's all said and done, noone likes ads!! But if I want to make money I will have to have them. I guess the ultimate goal for my site is to have enough traffic and consistant visitors to build up with partner sites that have VERY SPECIFIC advertising products/goals and consistently post them on my site. That would be the best. Opinions?

Interesting, I might give it a whirl in a week or so.

Personally I have my ads only in the menu. Or on index pages under the navigation and at the bottom. http://www.katinkahesselink.net/internet/ for instance.

Adsense has a 'heat map' in their help files to show you where ads can be shown compared to where people will click on them.

I'm already quite familiar with the heat map and had previously applied the principles to my ad placement. However, due to visitors being only 50 per day for a while (now 150 per day) there really wasn't too much point in placing them around at all because I wasn't getting many clicks. I have now set the goal to get 1000 visitors a day as soon as possible and I think I will apply ads gradually once that happens.

Great idea. Where would you recommend them on my particular site? Also, would you recommend blending ads or contrasting them?

Well, the theory is, some people deslike ads on asite hence the "unprofessionalism"; however, ads are so widespread today that nearly all sites have them and so people do not tend to mind it as much as would bethe case even 3-4 years ago.

Interesting view. I still think that professionalism can be tarnished by blatant advertising though so am careful not to challenge the reader too much. I know I still get annoyed when sites are blatant money making schemes that force you to really go looking for the information you require rather than having it neatly set out for you.

    We sure do, helps though.

Also, my 100th post - Hurrah! Thanks to all the DP Members who have helped me out, things are going very well!!

    Sincerely, Webs.
