Building On Small Niche Success

I think this is a really dumb question, but I'll ask anyway.

If you have a method of ranking well with multiple keywords in small niches (competition of 10k or less) and keeping that ranking - if you now want to rank in slightly larger niches (30k plus) - do you essentally follow the same methods, but do more of it?

for instance, if article marketing is doing the trick for you, do you just do the same strategy for the larger niche, (i.e. more articles)? It seems logical, but I feel like I'm missing something.

Also, do all of the backlinks you've built in the small niche give you more authority and thus better ranking once you decide to hit the larger one?

    thanks all!

You are on the right track. Your domain has overall link authority based on all of your links. So links you used to target other keywords help your domain rank for other keywords.

It is not as always of just doing things on a larger scale though. To target more competitive niches/keywords you need to vary your linking strategies. It is extremely difficult to get any competitive rankings by just using one or two linking strategies. You need all pieces of the puzzle to really compete. Something like article marketing just won't produce the quality links you need.

thanks for the reply, Vansterdam! Yes, I figured as much in terms of doing more than one thing. I just wanted to keep my question as simple as possible.

I would also assume that while one may have instant success with small competition keywords (indexed super quick) - that the more competition you add the longer it would take to appear? i.e. have patience, the process works, it just takes longer to see the fruits of your labors...

    thanks again!!
