Building new site and effectiveness of a 301 from a high PR site.

    Hi,

I'm planning to create a new site. How effective it is for me to buy a PR3/4 domain (dropped or not) and do a 301 redirect from that site to mine ?
Will Google adjust my new site to the PR site after a certain time ? Building a site from scratch to get a high PR is time consuming. I just wonder if it is a decent way to go about it ?

    Thanks.

if you 301 from one domain to another, then it probably won't pass much (if any) pr. If you setup a good site on top of the old dropped domain, then you may be able to keep most of the pr.

Make the dropped domain your main domain.

If you buy expired domain with PR and 301 it to new domain, you will notice how Google will "freeze" your new domain. It will drop from the SERP, it won't index new pages.

I've already tested that, few times.

Interesting. Sounds like it was identified as a spam trick. So you say you used a brand new domain and a 301 from a dropped domain and the new domain never got indexed? Or the pages were accepted than dropped?

The pages gets dropped, but the domain is not banned. Just penalty.
